2020 UFC event schedule: Undetermined return leaves future dates up in the air
After a successful run of three events in eight days, UFC is still unsure of its next move
UFC made its return to live action from Jacksonville a week ago, hosting three events over the course of eight days in a marathon of people coming and going from the city. Despite three people testing positive for COVID-19, the events seemingly went off without a hitch as Justin Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 249 to claim the interim lightweight title and a potential shot at Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Then, Glover Teixeira pounded Anthony Smith -- and knocked some of his teeth out -- to score an upset in the main event on Wednesday before Alistair Overeem rallied from nearly being finished to stop Walt Harris in Saturday's main event.
Now, while there's rumors and suggested dates for the next UFC event, the organization has yet to confirm fight cards and dates. Former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is expected to face Gilbert Burns in a main event on May 30, but that event is still waiting for final clearance and location. UFC is hoping to return home to its APEX center to run events, but has yet to get the go ahead from Nevada. If that is not possible, Dana White has had he will go to Arizona.
The next PPV is expected to be UFC 250, but that does not have an official date or location either. UFC has promoted the event as "coming in June" as it awaits governmental decision making. The biggest fight already announced for that card is UFC two-division champion Amanda Nunes defending her featherweight title against Felicia Spencer. Only four other fights have been announced for that card.
