  • Pelicans' Sindarius Thornwell: Signs on with New Orleans

Thornwell signed with the Pelicans on Monday.

While it's not yet clear who he's replacing, Thornwell will join the Pelicans as a "substitute player" when the season resumes in Orlando at the end of July. The former South Carolina standout most recently played in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, but he previously spent time with the Clippers in 2017-18 and 2018-19. In 137 career NBA games, Thornwell holds averages of 2.5 points and 0.7 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game.

  • Pelicans' Darius Miller: Officially out for restart

Miller (Achilles) will not play for the Pelicans when the season resumes in Orlando, Andrew Lopez of ESPN reports.

There was initially some hope that Miller would be able to return from his torn Achilles tendon, but he'll play it safe and be held out when the season resumes. Miller suffered the injury in late-August of 2019 and was initially given a seven-to-eight-month timetable. As of last week, Miller was able to go through on-court work, but he hadn't had a chance to play 3-on-3 or 5-on-5.

  • Pelicans' Darius Miller: Might not be ready for Orlando

Miller (Achilles) may not be healthy enough to play in Orlando during the eight-game regular season, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.

Miller hasn't had an opportunity to test his Achilles out 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 due the to pandemic restrictions. Guillory "doubts we'll see [Miller] playing if he can't ramp up his activity really quickly." If Miller does take the court, it will be a season debut. His presence would add an extra floor spacer, as Miller hits 1.9 threes in 25.5 minutes per game at 36.5 percent.

  • Pelicans' Zion Williamson: Says he's in shape

Williamson said Thursday that he feels like he's in good shape entering the Orlando restart, Jake Madison of Locked On Pelicans reports.

Williamson noted that he was able to do on-court workouts "every day" with his stepfather, so he feels confident about his conditioning level as the Pelicans begin to ramp up their preparation for the Orlando restart. The No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft had a torrid start to his career when he debuted in January, posting averages of 23.6 points and 6.8 rebounds through his first 19 games. Over his final 11 contests, Williamson turned 31.8 minutes per game into 26.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.9 steals.
